Yesterday, a Central Methodist University professor used racially insensitive language in the classroom. We are deeply saddened by these words and find them concerning and inconsistent with the core values of Central Methodist University. Whether student or faculty, we want everyone to feel the tremendous compassion, dedication, and academic excellence embedded in the Central experience. Statements like those made in the classroom yesterday do nothing to push those qualities ahead.
CMU will move swiftly to understand and address the situation and we are reaching out to our student community to offer support.
Students and instructors must both live by CMU’s core values to ensure a vibrant and healthy learning environment.
It is early in the investigative process and we are still working through it. The CMU administration will have a more thorough statement on the incident by 5 p.m.
