Choirs to Perform UMC Anniversary Concert

CMU choir performsMissouri United Methodist Church will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a special concert on Monday, October 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Columbia. The program, Fire & Light: Reflections on the Power of Fire and the Enduring Promise of Light, will be presented by the Central Methodist University Conservatory Singers and Chorale under the direction of Dr. Thomas Clark, with collaborative artist Janet O’Neill.

“Throughout October, we are honoring the legacy of our church and the faith of those who came before us,” said Rev. Daniel Hilty, pastor of Missouri United Methodist Church. “This concert will be a joyful celebration of music and history coming together.”

The evening will feature powerful works that explore creation, renewal, and hope, including Lloyd Pfautsch’s jubilant Consecrate the Place and Day, Ryan Main’s dramatic Dies Irae, and Morten Lauridsen’s lyrical Sure on This Shining Night. The program also highlights Katerina Gimon’s fiery and innovative Fire, Ola Gjeilo’s shimmering Northern Lights, and Dolly Parton’s beloved Light of a Clear Blue Morning arranged by Craig Hella Johnson. The concert concludes with Craig Courtney’s radiant Let There Be Light.

The Missouri United Methodist Chancel Choir will join CMU singers for a combined performance of Grace by Mark Hayes to mark this historic milestone.
