Central Methodist University will celebrate National Poetry Month in April with a pair of readings by professional poets Allison Joseph and David Harrison.
Joseph will visit campus for a poetry reading and Q & A session on April 3, while Harrison’s event will take place on April 9. Both sessions will begin at 6:30 p.m. on their respective dates and be held in Assembly Hall.
An award-winning poet and director of the MFA program in creative writing at Southern Illinois University, Joseph has written numerous books of poetry, as well as fiction and non-fiction. She also serves as the poetry editor of Crab Orchard Review, the publisher of No Chair Press, and the director of Writers in Common, a writing conference for writers of all ages and experience levels.
A resident of Springfield, Mo., Harrison has written and published more than 90 original books and earned dozens of honors for his work in children’s literature. His books have sold millions of copies and been translated into twelve languages. Harrison has also given keynote addresses and presentations at more than 300 events on national, regional, state, and local levels.
Both events are free and open to the public, sponsored by the Cultural Affairs committee at Central.
