Little Theatre Presents Charlotte's Web

Actors in Charlotte's Web on stageCentral Methodist University and the Little Theatre will present a classic children’s story on the stage this week, with public performances of Charlotte’s Web scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. The evening show on November 16 will begin at 7:00 p.m., and the Sunday matinee will begin at 1:30.

Based on the book by E.B. White and adapted for the stage by Joseph Robinette, the play features all the most enchanting characters: Wilbur, the irresistible young pig who desperately wants to avoid the butcher; Fern, a girl who understands what animals say to each other; Templeton, the gluttonous rat who can occasionally be talked into a good deed; and the extraordinary spider, Charlotte, who proves to be “a true friend and a good writer.” Determined to save Wilbur, Charlotte begins her campaign with the "miracle" of her web in which she writes, "Some pig." It's the beginning of a victorious campaign which ultimately ends with the now-safe Wilbur doing what is most important to Charlotte.

The Little Theatre production is led by director Kasey Lynch, with Professor Lonna Wilke providing scenic and lighting design and Terri Rohlfing on costume design. The cast includes Liz Boyd as Wilbur; Arielle Prince as Charlotte and Mrs. Arable; Colleen Allen as Fern and Goose; Gram Coalier as Templeton, Arable, and Lurvy; Tyler Hershey as Homer, Sheep, and Avery; Cecilia Rancatore as Narrator, Gander, Carter; and Uncle; and Mariah Nichols in various roles.

Members of the production crew include Kaya Knight, Meckenzie Jones, Elana Dodson, Walker Lapinski, Emma McLaughlin, Mullin Eyberg, Thanapat Jeng, Amira Butt, Harmony Andrews, and Owen Flores.

General admission for the show is $15, while CMU faculty and staff tickets are $10, and senior citizens and non-CMU student tickets are $5. CMU students can attend for free. Ticket reservations may be made by calling the box office at 660-248-6281.
