Farmer Wins Top Gulstad Award

Krysten FarmerCentral Methodist University officials visited the Mineral Area College campus on Thursday, September 12 to present a Gulstad Full-Tuition Scholarship to a deserving winner of the 2024 award. Krysten Farmer, of Fredericktown, was recognized at the MAC board meeting and presented with the scholarship.

Named for Dr. Rita Gulstad, CMU provost, the scholarship is awarded each fall and spring to a transfer student interested in studying at one of Central’s extended sites or online. Applicants must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better and be accepted to CMU.

This semester’s winner plans to major in psychology and was encouraged to transfer to Central in hopes of one day applying for the clinical counseling master’s degree program. She’s also a “busy wife and mother,” with a five-year-old daughter at home.

“My activities and interests mostly revolve around her gymnastics and dance schedule,” said Farmer, who graduated from Mineral Area this year. “I am determined to succeed and more excited than ever to be continuing my education, with a true appreciation for it now that I'm older.”

Farmer said her interest in Central Methodist was bolstered by the university’s virtual clinic possibilities, as her time is limited by her family and full-time job. She is determined to meet her goals and one day enter the MSCC program, hoping to one day find a position as a counselor where she set her own schedule for meeting with clients.

“I feel with this path I have truly found something that speaks to me, as well as something that would work for my family life – which is what I want above all else,” said Farmer.
