Central Methodist University’s office of financial assistance has found its new director in Dyllon Harper, a former college athlete who’s ready to take on a challenge with his new team.
“We are excited to welcome Dyllon to our excellent financial assistance team,” said Dr. Melissa Mace, vice president for enrollment management. “His skills and enthusiasm will be great assets as we move into the new academic year.”
Harper, who grew up in Ashland after his family moved from Oklahoma, holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from William Woods University, where he played baseball for the Owls. Prior to stepping into his new role at Central, he worked for William Woods and at Veterans United Home Loans. He believes his degrees in business administration and athletic administration will help him navigate the challenges that come with his new job.
“I am all about the ‘why’ and understanding that each situation has several paths to the finish line, I just have to determine what is the most efficient path,” he said of his background in business.
Harper acknowledged that institutions of higher education are facing a tough situation in financial aid, thanks to changes at the federal level, but he’s confident in his ability to navigate the pressure.
“I love a challenge,” he said. “We are in a challenging time with the changes and delays to FAFSA, some turnover in the financial aid office, and we are on a time crunch for the start of school. I have worked under pressure my whole career, whether that was on the field at William Woods or working to meet deadlines to close loans at VU.”
In his role as the director of financial assistance, Harper will oversee all financial aid for students across both Central’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) and College of Graduate and Extended Studies (CGES). He will be the primary contact for any federal aid requested and used to cover students’ costs with the University.
Harper also emphasized that his office is always open to students and visitors who need to chat about their financial aid.
Outside of work, Harper spends most of his time with his wife and two rescue dogs. He is also active in slow-pitch softball with his wife and enjoys playing golf.
