Central Methodist University has once again achieved the honor of being selected as an Apple Distinguished School for another three-year period. Central first earned the distinction in 2021 for its continuous innovation using Apple technology to inspire, imagine, and impact teaching and learning.
“We are proud to say that Central Methodist University is a leader in bridging the digital divide, ensuring that every student, every day, regardless of financial background, has equal access to cutting edge technology,” said Dr. Roger Drake, president of the university. “Our Digital U initiative, powered by amazing iPad technology, enables us to achieve that goal.”
“This designation reflects our ongoing commitment to empowering learners through technology,” said Carrie Strodtman, director for digital learning. “Our faculty have embraced the Digital U initiative, reimagining their curriculum to integrate technology in meaningful and transformative ways. This approach has created a dynamic learning environment that encourages students to create, innovate, and share their ideas.”
With its inclusion in this year’s list, Central became one of only 46 institutions of higher education in the United States to earn the designation of an Apple Distinguished School. Apple identifies these institutions as “centers of leadership and educational excellence that demonstrate Apple’s vision for learning with technology.”
Central has been achieving this end for years thanks to a dedication to creating a culture of discovery and invention through its vast ecosystem of educational tools. CMU puts those tools right into the hands of its community from day one, starting with providing each new student with an iPad and comprehensive learning bundle.
This commitment to innovative learning extends beyond the traditional classroom as well, with features such as the Makerspace, where students can discover and create using green screen and virtual reality technology. Central also encourages both students and faculty to be technologically creative through its Innovation Awards, which recognize projects that utilized the Digital U innovation to engage students and promote critical thinking and new ways of looking at problems.
With this recognition, Central Methodist University continues to live out its mission to develop leaders who are well-equipped to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
