DECA Competes at State

DECA-header.jpgOn February 16, Central Methodist University DECA attended the Missouri Collegiate DECA State Career Development Conference in Columbia, Mo. This is the fifth year in a row that CMU DECA members have competed at this event.

Five individuals competed at the state conference this year, and two teams placed in the top three of their events. Stephanie Rodriguez and Tucker Karl placed second in Event Planning while Emily Collins and Marcus Young placed third in Marketing Communications. Matthew Kilmer also competed at the event in Financial Accounting.

In addition to the state conference, CMU’s DECA team has also completed the Leadership Passport Program. This program consists of a set of activities completed by chapters which gives them the opportunity to achieve different levels of recognition. The activities that are included in the program include being academically prepared, professionally responsible, community oriented, and experienced leaders. CMU’s DECA team has completed the program at the Diplomat level, the second-highest category possible in the Leadership Passport Program.

CMU DECA members Rodriguez, Karl, Collins, and Young are close to competing again this year. These individuals will be competing at the Collegiate DECA International Development Conference (ICDC), taking place on April 20-23 in Austin, Texas. Rodriguez, Karl, and Collins are returning to this event after participating in the past, while Young is a newcomer.
