Momberg Competition Coming Nov. 8

science.JPGThe annual Momberg High School Math and Science Competition will be making its return to the campus of Central Methodist University next month, after the last two years’ competitions were cancelled due to the pandemic. This year’s event will take place on November 8.

Students taking part in the competition will have the chance to not only receive giveaway items, but will also be competing for scholarships of up to $1,000.

According to Dr. James “Tiger” Gordon, chair of the division of science, math, and computer science, students will be scored with a combination of two events. In a knowledge-based portion of the competition, they will be tested in the areas of biology, chemistry, physics, and math. Then, in a performance-based portion, teams will build and bring along a “mousetrap car,” which will be run in Puckett Fieldhouse and awarded points based on distance traveled. The highest scoring teams over the two stages of competition will be awarded with varying levels of scholarships.

The day’s schedule will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, with arrival and check-in on the fourth floor of the Inman Student and Community Center. Students will then receive a welcome and instructions before the knowledge competition begins at 8:45. The performance competition will take place at 10:30, followed by lunch and tours of campus. The office of admissions will give a presentation at 12:30, leaving the day to culminate in the awards presentation at 12:45.
