Five students from Missouri community colleges have been named Gulstad Achievement Scholarship recipients from Central Methodist University this summer. The scholarship is awarded each semester to as many as five deserving students transferring into Central’s College of Graduate and Extended Studies (CGES).
This semester’s winners were Malorie Smiley from East Central College, Nicolette Embree from North Central Missouri College, Ashley Palmer from Crowder College, Danika Elgin from Moberly Area Community College, and Judith Bett from Moberly Area Community College.
Smiley is a native of Pacific and is studying nursing, while Embree is from Green City and working toward a degree in pre-education and early childhood education. Palmer, a Columbia native, is studying for a post-professional degree in occupational therapy. Elgin, of Kirksville, is studying pre-education and elementary education, and Bett, also from Columbia, is majoring in computer science.
The Gulstad Award is named after Dr. Rita Gulstad, longtime CMU provost, and was established to provide scholarship funds to qualified community college students who would like to continue their education through Central.
