The Central Methodist University concert band has been selected for the honor of performing at next year’s Missouri Music Educators Association (MMEA) 85th Annual Workshop and Conference. The event is set to take place from January 25-28, 2023, at Tan-Tar-A Conference Center in Osage Beach.
The CMU band, led by longtime director Roy “Skip” Vandelicht ’77, is one of only 10 bands selected for the prestigious event, and one of only two representing colleges.
“This is a great honor for our band and our university,” said Vandelicht, who was inducted into the MMEA Hall of Fame in 2020. “I am so excited for the students to experience the preparation for and performance at MMEA.”
Along with performances by the invited ensembles, the conference will feature keynote speakers, clinic sessions, business meetings, guests artists, and more for those in attendance.
The Missouri Music Educators Association includes nearly 80,000 music educators from all across the state, with the vision of providing access and exposure to comprehensive, high-quality music instruction by fully certified teachers. Central has been present at the conference in many ways and for many years, notably with Vandelicht’s induction into the Hall of Fame in 2020 and the Chorale’s performance as an ensemble in 2019.
“It will be something they will remember for many years, and we look forward to seeing many of our alumni music educators at our performance,” Vandelicht said of the conference.
