Linn Memorial United Methodist Church and Central Methodist University’s Center for Faith and Service are teaming up to celebrate the season of Lent with the Fayette community.
Led by Pastor Bill O’Neal, the Lent:CMU:40 effort is meant to give those unacquainted with Lent an opportunity to see how Methodists celebrate and mark the season leading up to Easter.
“Lent:CMU:40 is a pattern of life that enables us to live in community together,” said O’Neal. “It is a chance to try the ancient, spiritual practices of Lent in new ways, allowing us the opportunity to reconnect with God, who does not break promises.”
The first big event of the season is the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner, scheduled for 5 p.m. on March 1 in Assembly Hall. The meal is open to the community, with local alumni, faculty, staff, and students especially invited to learn about the Lenten season.
Next on the calendar is the Ash Wednesday service at 6:30 p.m. on March 2. The traditional church service for the first Wednesday of Lent will be held in the church, with Linn UMC combining with St. Paul United Methodist Church for the occasion.
Other services and events will take place throughout the 40-day season, with many opportunities for both the Fayette and CMU communities to come together. For more information on Lent:CMU:40, contact the Linn UMC office of communications at communications@linnumc.org or 660-248-3157.
