More than 50 students attended a campus safety session Monday in Stedman Hall focused on dorm safety, drinking on campus, suicide awareness, and sexual assault and consent.
Guest speakers for the event were Don Clear, CMU supervisor of public safety, and Candy Cornman, director of safety and security at Stephens College.
Clear said he and his guest also reviewed basics on active shooter training, fire evacuation, safety escorts, insurance, and other items.
He said much of the 90-minute session, though, was focused on sexual relationships and consent, as well as dorm security and building entry and access.
Cornman, a retired police officer, provided perspective on 20 years of interviewing victims of sexual assault, offering advice and tips on consent and getting out of situations before they escalate, and where to go and how to handle situations if they do escalate.
