Nine voice students from Central Methodist University competed in a virtual vocal competition early this month, earning awards for their outstanding performances. The Mid Missouri NATS (National Association for the Teachers of Singing) competition featured classical and musical theater singing by students throughout the region.
Central finished the competition with several award winners in different categories. Anna Pendergrass of Sullivan won the lower women’s classical division, while Ezechiel Daos of Dixon was the winner of the upper men’s classical division. Rob Brown of Saint Peters was a double winner, taking home the title in both the men’s lower classical and musical theater divisions.
Emily Gann of Lake Saint Louis secured second place in the lower women’s classical division, and Connor Rich of Saint Joseph placed third in the lower men’s classical division.
Other Central students taking part in the competition were Hailey Sage of Fayette, Kona Asi of Waynesville, Ian Schmidt of Ste. Genevieve, and Dalton Myler of Lebanon.
The vocal students are coached by Dr. Susan Quigley-Duggan and Dr. Kristin Newbegin. Mary Jane Nance, Janet O’Neill, and Jonelle Loehnig accompanied the singers on piano.
