Central Methodist University will be hosting one of its first alumni events on campus since the start of the pandemic this summer, as an Alumni Band concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on June 12.
“After a year of interacting virtually and listening to music on livestreams, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to make music together in person,” said Dr. Dori Waggoner, chair of the CMU music department. “It will be fun to play, laugh, and reminisce.”
Two dozen participants have already registered for the event, which will be held on the CMU campus after a day of rehearsal beginning at 9 a.m. Same-day registration will begin at 8 a.m., while preregistration can be completed at www.centralalumnievents.com.
Organizers of the event are planning to have several measures in place to ensure the health and safety of the participants, including the requirement to wear a mask on campus unless playing an instrument. Musicians playing wind instruments are also asked to have a bell cover for playing; CMU will loan them out to people who don’t have their own.
Seats will also be set up at a distance of six feet during the day, and participants will be encouraged to practice as much physical distancing as possible.
