CMU, MACC Partner to Offer Certification

With its newest partnership with Moberly Area Community College, Central Methodist University will begin to offer an option that has previously been hard to come by in Missouri.

Beginning Spring 2021, CMU will begin accepting students transferring from MACC who wish to complete a Technology and Engineering Certification. Thanks to the new partnership, students will be able to take the necessary Mechatronics courses at MACC, then transfer the credits to Central, where they will complete the education courses required for the certification.

Professor Sally Hackman, Director of Professional Education at CMU, is excited about the partnership because it provides an opportunity to meet the demand for specialized instructors.

“We’ve seen a huge shortage of these technology and engineering instructors because four-year institutions don’t offer [the certification],” Hackman said. “Folks might not think they want to be teachers when they start the program, but then they think ‘What would it take for me to be a teacher?’ And there have been few options for them.”

But with CMU and MACC coming together, it will be one more option available to students who wish to start their higher education journey at a community college and finish at a four-year institution.

Hackman says Central is expecting its first full-time student to transfer into the program next fall.
