Another week of competition for the Central Methodist University rodeo team proved successful, as head coach Amanda Phipps’s team came home with a third-place finish from the University of West Alabama.
The star of the weekend was Larrya Stegall, who came out with an eighth place run in the long go of the breakaway roping competition. With a blistering run of 2.4 seconds in the short round she finished with the fastest time, securing her a tie for first in the average for the event.
Central’s top point-earner from last season, Kelsi Haller, also continued her strong performance in the barrel racing. She finished in fourth place in both the long go and the short round to end up fourth overall in the average.
Coach Phipps said she was “on cloud nine” after the weekend’s events.
“They did awesome,” she said of her athletes. “We have a small team compared to many others and we smoked them this weekend!”
The team’s next competition will take place from October 15-17 at Three Rivers College in Sikeston.
