Central Methodist University has made the difficult decision to cancel all Homecoming activities for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Homecoming had been scheduled for the weekend of September 25-27.
After a recommendation by University administrators, Central’s Board of Trustees and President Roger Drake made the decision on Friday, July 17, during its regularly scheduled meeting.
Drake made the announcement Tuesday, saying the decision was necessary in an effort to maintain the highest level of safety for students, alumni, faculty, and staff.
“Homecoming is one of our most treasured annual events and I am incredibly disappointed in having to make this decision,” Drake said. “But this is really the best decision to mitigate risk and exposure for the CMU family and for Fayette.”
While all formal Homecoming activities have been canceled, Central’s 2 p.m. home football game September 26 against William Penn will be played as scheduled in accordance with NAIA game day guidelines.
