New Inscape Released Online

Inscape-cover.jpgThe 45th edition of Central Methodist University’s magazine of the arts has been released with a new slate of photography, poetry, prose, and other works by the Central community. The 2020 version of Inscape is available to view online here.

This year’s co-editors for the magazine were Molly Lyons, an English major from New Franklin, and Ashley Patzwald, an English major from Linn Creek. Kavita Hatwalkar was the faculty advisor, and the editorial team also included Darren Defreitas, Hope Howser, Rachel Lipsey, Sara Ratliff, and Grace Stumbaugh.

Awards for excellence in the following categories included:

Poetry

  • First place – “Gratitude” by Rene Burkland
  • Second place – “Treasures Created and Abandoned” by Peggy Laue
  • Third place – “Ode to a Rose” by Mia Mueller
  •  

Creative Nonfiction

  • First place – “V is for Vanity” by Darren Defreitas
  • Second place – “Only Cool Kids Pee Their Pants” by Rachel Lipsey
  • Third place – “It’s All in the Pie” by Ashley Patzwald
  •  

Art, Drawing, and Photography

  • First place – “Casa di Ospitalita” by Natalie Van Horn
  • Second place – “Pieced Together” by Janie Leathers
  • Third place – “La Vie En Rose” by Natalie Van Horn
  •  

Short Fiction

  • First place – “Dandy Man Lore” by Darren Defreitas
  • Second place – “Fairytales, Romance, and Other Nonsense” by Sara Ratliff
  • Third place – “The Arrow” by Chase Cannon
  •  

The magazine also featured work by high school students who submitted for Young Writer’s Day 2019. Entries were received from students at Jamestown, Smithton, Boonville, and Fayette. Award winners included the following:

Founded in 1975, Inscape is the brainchild of CMU's Tau Tau Tau honorary fraternity, Mu Lambda chapter of Sigma Tau Delta (the international English Honor Society), and the mythic Scribblers and Scrawlers. Inscape is funded by CMU's Student Government Association.
