On February 27 and 28, six Central Methodist University students will travel to The Lodge of Four Seasons in Lake Ozark, Mo. to participate for the first time in a Collegiate DECA competition at the Missouri Career Development Conference.
During the competition, there will be individual and team events, a chapter quiz bowl competition, and a Muscular Dystrophy Association DECA-thon -- a social event with food, music, prizes, and games to raise money for MDA. The competition ends with an awards ceremony for the top three finishers in each category.
Central Methodist University DECA chapter members who are attending the competition include Quizonte Falls of Marshall, Mo., who will be participating in the Restaurant and Food Service Management event. Leah Smith of Saint Peters, Mo. will be participating in the Travel and Tourism event, Andrea Montoya of El Paso, Texas will be participating in the Human Resources Management event. Da’Viona Bonner of Bridgeton, Mo. will be participating in the Hotel and Lodging event. Rachel Smith of Wentzville, Mo. and Grady Mattson of Stanberry, Mo. will be participating in the Event Planning team event.
The Missouri Career Development Conference (CDC) event for Collegiate DECA is the first level of competition. Students who place high enough at the state level will move on to the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Atlanta, Georgia in April.
