Central Methodist University students brought home some hardware from Iowa over the November 2-3 weekend after award-worthy performances at the Central Regional National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) voice conference.
The highlight of the weekend was a first-place finish in the musical theater division by freshman Rob Brown.
In addition to Brown, Keaton Denney, Taylor Graham, and Ezechiel Daos were each selected as semi-finalists out of a large group of singers from three states.
Other CMU students to compete at the event, under the guidance of Dr. Susan Quigley-Duggan and Dr. Laura Wiebe, were Hailey Sage, KeKona Asi, Addylyn Gabriel, Lilly Powell, and Kennedy Walker. Mary Jane Nance accompanied the singers as the collaborative pianist.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of NATS, which offers lifelong learning experiences to members and encourages high standards of vocal art.
The Central Region of NATS, in which CMU participates, is one of 14 regions in the country and serves members in Missouri, Illinois, and Iowa.
