Oboe Recital Coming September 15

ODan Willettboist Dan Willett and pianist Natalia Bolshakova will perform for the Central Methodist University community on Sunday, September 15. The program will include the Weber Concertino in C and Hindemith Sonata, both mainstays of the oboe repertoire, plus a transcription for oboe and piano of the Ravel Sonatine.

Willett, professor of oboe at the University of Missouri School of Music, will also be joined by fellow MU faculty members Julia Rosenfeld, Leslie Perna, and Eli Lara in Mozart's Quartet for Oboe and Strings.

Willett frequently performs solos and chamber recitals and has also performed with the St. Louis Symphony, Missouri Chamber Orchestra, Kammerguild Chamber Orchestra, and the International Double Reed Society. He has performed in Brazil and China in addition to the U.S. as a member of the Missouri Woodwind Quintet and has performed in France alongside Brazilian guitarist Paulo Oliveira.

Bolshakova has appeared as a recitalist, chamber musician, and soloist with orchestras in France, England, Germany, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Spain, Russia, and across the United States. She and Willett recently recorded a collaborative effort known as Stolen Treasures for Oboe and Piano with Albany Records. She has been a member of the MU School of Music since 2004.

The two will be joined by Rosenfeld on violin, Perna on viola, and Lara on cello. All are current faculty members at the School of Music, as well, and are part of the Esterhazy String Quartet. The Quartet has a long list of recordings and has performed throughout the United States and abroad.

The recital, which is open to the public, will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Kountz Recital Hall.
