Area high school students will soon have the chance to learn about Central Methodist University’s outstanding health professions education, as the annual Allied Health Day is scheduled for Friday, September 20.
Sponsored by the Division of Health Professions, the event will begin with registration at 10 a.m. in Jacobs Conference Center. Events will continue through 3 p.m.
Healthcare is one of the fastest-growing professional arenas, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Occupations in healthcare are projected to grow 14 percent in the 10 years from 2018 to 2028 – faster than the average for most other occupations.
Allied Health Day activities are geared toward area high school upperclassmen, in conjunction with the schools’ health occupation programs, bringing high school students to CMU to learn more about various career education offered at the university. Students are specifically exposed to CMU’s athletic training, nursing, physical therapist assistant, and occupational therapy assistant education and careers.
Throughout the day, students will receive an overview of the health occupations program, have lunch in the dining hall, and have the opportunity to attend a lecture and perform hands-on activities in each specific area.
Depending on availability, students may also get the chance to view the Moberly medic helicopter and hear about what role its operators play in the health care continuum.
