After serving last semester as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach, Central Methodist University graduate student Hannah Maat has taken a new position as an admissions representative.
In her previous role, Maat assisted athletes with weightlifting sessions, mobility and other training, but recently her career path has taken a turn toward the administrative.
“I kind of found a new passion in my career field which led me here,” she said of the admissions office. “The more grad classes I took that explored the administrative route, the more interested I became in it. And when this opportunity opened, I couldn’t pass it up.”
Maat’s new job responsibilities in admissions include helping prospective students through the recruitment process, as well as connecting new students with financial aid and guiding them through enrollment and class sign-up. The office’s newest hire says she looks forward to helping students find out the path they want to take and “hopefully find that Central’s the right fit for them.”
“We’re excited to have Hannah join the team,” said Dr. Joe Parisi, vice president for enrollment management. “She’s a motivated, high-energy individual who is going to do well.”
Prior to her time at CMU, Maat received a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Michigan Technological University. A native of Fremont, Mich., Maat has served as an intern at MTU in both the athletic training office and the student development complex. She also spent time interning with the Ferris State University Ewigleben Sports Complex. In addition to her internship experience, Maat previously worked as a fitness center attendant, skills and conditioning coach, fitness instructor, and health and wellness coach before working at CMU as a graduate assistant.
Maat describes herself as a “driven individual” and plans to complete her master’s degree in education with an emphasis on athletic administration in Spring 2020.
