Family Weekend is just around the corner at Central Methodist University, with events all day on Sept. 21. Families of students are invited to come and experience the CMU community for themselves.
Parents, siblings and other guests can take part in events throughout the weekend, beginning with cheering on the volleyball team against Clarke University at 7 p.m. Friday in Puckett Field House.
Then the events start flowing on Saturday, as the registration table opens at 9 a.m. in Inman Student Center lower lot. There, visitors can pick up gift and game-day passes, as well as meal passes for the picnic. Game-day passes will be $5 per person or $20 per household, while meal passes are $7.50 for adults and $3 for children ages 4-8. Also at 9 a.m., the Bookstore and tailgate area will open to visitors.
The Fayette Golf Club, at Highway 5 and 240, will be free all day to CMU families and students.
Around 10 a.m., the CMU Marching Eagles and cheer squad will kick off the pep rally, just ahead of the 11 a.m. kickoff time for the Eagles football game against Graceland University. At the same time as the football game kicks off, brunch will be available in the dining hall, which will stay open until 12:30 p.m. Meals will be $6.25 for adults.
Visitors will have the chance to check out three free events in the 1 to 3 p.m. time slot. The Ashby-Hodge Gallery of American Art will be open in Classic Hall, with a free shuttle available from the Student Center lower lot. In addition, the Observatory on Park Road will be open with sun scope and hands-on physics activities available. Again, a free shuttle will be available for transport. And last but not least, free popcorn will be served in the Student Center.
From 1:30 to 3 p.m., the Academic Fair will take place in the open area near T. Berry Smith Hall, and the volleyball team will face off against Mt. Mercy in Puckett Field House at 2, as well.
Inman Plaza will be the site of the Family Picnic from 2:30 to 4:30, then the day of events will wrap up with a pair of Eagle soccer games, as the men’s and women’s teams will host Grand View. Men’s kickoff is 4 p.m., with the women’s match following at 6:30.
On Sunday, Family Weekend events will wind down with the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Morning Worship with Conservatory Singers in Linn Memorial, followed by brunch in the dining hall from 11 a.m. to 12:30.
The golf club will again be open and free all day to CMU families, and the men’s and women’s reserve soccer teams will face off against Culver-Stockton at times to be announced.
