Central Methodist University has hired two new resident hall directors (RHDs) to join the already-in-place crew of three for the 2019-20 academic year.
One RHD is assigned to each residence hall on campus – with five total RHDs for the five halls.
RHDs play a vital role in the overall on-campus experience at Central, bringing knowledge, experience, and guidance to students staying in student housing. They ensure leadership and safety, and typically oversee several resident hall assistants, who are also in line to help out fellow students.
Nikole Walker, from Rockingham, N.C., is the new RHD for Howard Payne Hall – a co-ed residence hall. Walker graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., with a bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education.
“I’m excited to be a part of CMU because I believe in the university’s mission and the way it encourages you to be enthusiastic in all things,” Walker said. “My favorite quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson hones in on that exact concept. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.”
Darren Jones, from Fulton, Mo., is the new RHD for McMurry Hall – a co-ed facility set up in suites. Jones is a 2016 criminal justice graduate of Central Methodist, so knows the ins and outs of campus life well.
“Central Methodist was a big part of my life,” Jones said. “The camaraderie inside the housing facilities created long-lasting friendships that I wouldn’t have made if it weren’t for the positive atmosphere within the dorms and the campus, itself. I hope to recreate the same experience for future students and families.”
