Central Methodist Already Building Up For Fall

If it’s summer on the campus at Central Methodist University, it’s time for renovation and new projects. And, this summer is no exception.

When students return to CMU in August, they will see evidence of construction projects at Clingenpeel Hall, Holt Hall, and the Assembly Hall, said Julee Sherman, vice president for finance and administration.

The goal of the work at the Assembly Hall is to create a new home for the Center for Faith and Service and music ministry, and provide an interior access from the Linn Memorial Church sanctuary downstairs to the Assembly Hall.

The Assembly Hall project costs approximately $1.4 million, and will occur in two phases. Phase One involves improvements to the foundation, windows, and building drainage, as well as significant demolition inside. This work will be done by the end of August. Phase Two includes an elevated stage/performance space, offices, a meeting room, and a reception area.

Work at Clingenpeel, Sherman said, should cost about $2.3 million. Phase One includes interior demolition, tuck-pointing, windows, waterproofing, and drainage improvements. Phase Two will include football offices and a meeting space, as well as space for the university’s new wrestling program--offices, locker rooms and practice space.

“We’re always focused on improvements for our community,” Sherman said. “The changes at the Assembly Hall and Clingenpeel will certainly benefit our students, and generate great pride in our campus.”

At Holt Hall, 12 residential rooms are being converted to six upgraded suites with bathrooms and showers for the suites, Sherman said. If these rooms are well received, the University will look to continue these renovations throughout Holt Hall in the summer of 2020.

Additionally, CMU is constructing new monument signs, built of decorative stone, at the corners of the campus to more accurately identify boundaries and enhance CMU’s entrances. This project should be done this fall.

Sherman stressed the Phase Two work on the Assembly Hall and Clingenpeel Hall project remains subject to successful fundraising. Barring any delays, those projects should be complete in spring 2020.
