Vocal Students Shine At NATS

Central Methodist University vocal students didn’t just compete at the Mid-Missouri National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) student auditions at Stephens College in Columbia – several of them walked away with first, second, and third place awards.

The students, who are from the studios of Dr. Susan Quigley-Duggan, professor of voice and opera, and Dr. Laura Wiebe, assistant professor of music, competed against students from Stephens College, the University of Missouri, Columbia College, State Fair Community College, Missouri Valley, and other private studios. Performers also received constructive vocal feedback from professional adjudicators.

Keaton Denney (senior music education major from Cole Camp) won first place in the upper classical men’s division; Malik Hughes (senior music major from Saint Joseph) won second place in the upper men’s musical theatre division; Rachel Martin (senior music education major from Fayette) won third place in the upper college women category;

Hailey Sage (freshman education and music education double major from Fayette) won second place in the lower college women category; KeKona Asi (sophomore education and music education double major from Waynesville) won third place in the lower college women category; and Ezechiel Daos (freshman music major from Dixon) won third place in the lower college men category.

Other students who competed included Hadley Wiggans (sophomore music major from Macon), and Addylyn Gabriel (freshman education and music education double major from Agency).

Collaborative Pianist Mary Jane Nance accompanied the CMU singers.
