Each spring, Central Methodist University students, faculty, and staff join together to roll up their sleeves, get their hands dirty, and help out Fayette and surrounding communities.
It is once again time for the university’s annual Service Day, which will take place Thursday, April 4. The event is sponsored by CMU’s Center for Faith and Service and encourages volunteers to donate time and effort in support of a variety of causes, with undertakings including everything from highway clean-up to raking leaves, and painting to various charity work.
“Each year, I am surprised at the amount of love and support demonstrated by the CMU family,” said Cassie Frink, director of civic engagement and student programming. “Watching the amount of participation and volunteer opportunities grow is amazing to witness. It has been a blessing to take part in such a wonderful tradition.”
Volunteers not only include CMU students, faculty, and staff, but usually also members of their families and friends who simply want to join in and help out.
Service opportunities are widespread. CMU will have volunteers in Fayette, Glasgow, Boonville, Columbia, and Harrisburg. So far, opportunities on the schedule include yardwork, window cleaning, debris removal, canvasing streets for trash removal, gardening, and working with local schools.
Classes at CMU are called off on Service Day to provide volunteers with the flexibility they need to participate.
