Two years ago, when Deanna Cooper relocated to Colorado to pursue new adventures, Central Methodist University knew the great asset it was losing. But now, the University is pleased to announce she has made a return to Central, ready to make big moves that benefit the institution as she did so effortlessly in the past.
Cooper, who was the director of development and alumni activities for the Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations from 2013 to 2017, has been named the director of development. Her official start date back at CMU was Monday, March 4, according to Dr. Josh E. Jacobs, vice president for advancement and alumni relations.
“It is a rare opportunity to rehire a colleague,” Jacobs said. “We are happy to have Deanna back on the team, and I have great confidence that she will do excellent work for us once again.”
In this position, Cooper will develop and cultivate relationships with alumni and friends of Central Methodist. She will creatively connect people to the mission of the institution, thank them, and maintain engagement, assist with strategic planning for campaigns, and much more. Funds to support the priorities of the institution will be by-products of the relationships being nurtured.
“I couldn’t be more delighted to return to Central,” Cooper said. “Many good things have been taking place and a wonderful energy abounds campus. I enjoy development and find inspiration in providing others an opportunity to advance CMU and its students. Central is truly a special place and I am honored to be back and be a part of the Advancement team.”
When she first moved to Colorado – her mountain roots, as she is originally from Gunnison, Colo., Cooper was the Hinsdale County administrator in Lake City. In this role, she directed operations for Hinsdale County government, coordinating administration of Hinsdale County in accordance with policies, collaborating with all county departments to efficiently maintain county government and business, monitoring and communicating Board of County Commissioners approved projects, programs, and contracts, and much more.
Cooper then became branch manager for JC Propane, Inc., also in Lake City, where she oversaw accounts payable and receivable, payroll, personnel, sales and territory, and fuel delivery coordination.
Cooper and her husband, Mike, will be residing in the Howard County area upon his return to Missouri. Currently, she is staying with her daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Ryan Miller, in Columbia.
