Central Methodist University’s Little Theatre cast and crew are excited to put on a children’s version of The Odyssey adapted by Tom Smith, which welcomes students from area schools to the Fayette campus, and also has Saturday and Sunday performances that are open to the public.
Directed by Dr. Mark Kelty, CMU professor of theatre, the show will be performed as a humorous, children’s version. Costume design is by Terri Rohlfing, and scenic and lighting design is by Greg Owen.
The Wednesday, Nov. 7 through Friday, Nov. 9 performances are exclusively for school children who visit the theatre with their classes. The Saturday, Nov. 10 and Sunday, Nov. 11 performances, however, are open to all. Saturday’s show begins at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday’s matinee is at 1:30 p.m.
The cost for the open-to-the-public shows is $8 for adults, $5 for CMU faculty and staff, and free for CMU students with identification. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
The Odyssey was written by Greek poet Homer, and tells the story of Odysseus and his encounters, trials, and adventures while trying to get home after the Trojan War.
The cast of The Odyssey features Zeke Jones, a music major from St. Louis, as Odysseus; Taviyon King, a psychology major from St. Louis, as Pete; Cori Bryan, a music education major from Springfield, as Nausicaa, Fob, Aeoulous, Circe, and Siren; Ben Kixmiller, a theatre arts major from Prairie Home, as Alcinous, Gob, Tiresias, and Zeus;
KeKona Asi, an education and music education double major from Waynesville, as Calypso, Polly, Scylla, and Siren; Hailey Sage, an education and music education double major from Fayette, as Arete, Polly’s Mother, and Siren; Ashley Wright, an education and theatre arts double major from Windsor, as Poseidon, Hermes, Charybdis, and Siren; and Jenny Barnett, a theatre arts major from St. Louis, as Athena.
The assistant director/stage manager is Myriah Araiza, a theatre arts major from Columbia, who also is in charge of publicity. Jordan Fallis, a music education major from Moberly, created the sound design; and Bryan Berliner, an education and music education double major from Hermann, will work in sound and lights.
