Students Carr, Shively Will Present Senior Recitals

Two Central Methodist University musicians will present their senior recital on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in CMU’s Kountz Recital Hall on the Fayette campus. The performances are free and open to the public.
Soprano Cayla Carr is from Jefferson City, Mo. and is a graduate of Helias High School. She is a student of CMU Vocal Professor Dr. Laura Wiebe. Carr will perform Italian selections “Non so piu cosa son” by Wolfgang Mozart and La Promessa by Gioachino Rossini.
Her German pieces include Vergebliches Ständchen by Johannes Brahms and Liebst du um Schönheitby Clara Schumann. Clair de Luneby Gabriel Fauré and Ouvres tes yeux bleus by Jules Massenet, both French songs, will conclude her foreign language selections.
Carr will end the evening with English songs “Prologue: Once More-to Gloriana” from Songs to the Moon and “A Route to the Sky” from Paper Wings, both by Jake Heggie. Her final song, “Over My Head I Hear Music in The Air,” is a moving traditional spiritual which she performs a capella.
Central Methodist’s Mary Jane Nance, collaborative pianist, will assist Carr.
Flutist Samantha Shively is from Monroe City, Mo. and is a graduate of Monroe City High School. She is a student of Lisa Thill, private studio instructor and CMU adjunct professor.
Shively will begin the evening with “Idylle” by Benjamin Godard and Sonata No. 2 by G. F. Handel. She will be joined by Mikaela Lewis and Abbey Sorrell on flute to perform Trio No. I by James Hook, and will conclude her portion of the evening recital with “Aria” by Eugène Bozza.
Central Methodist’s Dr. Melissa Simons, assistant professor, will accompany Shively.
Carr and Shively perform this recital as partial fulfillment of their requirements for the Bachelor of Music Education degree and will begin student teaching in the spring of 2019.
