The newly formed Mid-Missouri Chapter of National Association of Teachers of Singing (MNATS) recently had its first student audition competition. Dr. Susan Quigley-Duggan, professor of voice and opera at Central Methodist University has assumed the presidency of the organization.
Two Central students were outstanding in the auditions. Malik Hughes (junior music major from St. Joseph) took second place in the upper college men’s division; Rachel Martin (junior music education major from Fayette) won first place in the lower college women’s division. Students came from CMU, Missouri University, Columbia College and State Fair Community College to compete.
Other Central students who auditioned included Keaton Denny (junior, music education major from Cole Camp), Cayla Carr (senior music education major from Mount Sterling), McKenna Nelson (senior music major from Macon), Hadley Wiggans (sophomore music major from Macon), Myria Araiza (junior theatre arts major from Columbia), and Catherine Barnard (sophomore nursing major from Columbia). They were accompanied by CMU pianist Mary Jane Nance.
Malik Huges is a student of Dr. Duggan, and Rachel Martin is a student of Dr. Laura Wiebe, CMU assistant professor of music and director of the Conservatory Singers.
