Springtime At The Piano

Spring is a prime time to listen to the beautiful strings of the piano, whether soothing, jazzy, or wild. This spring the Swinney Conservatory of Music on the campus of Central Methodist University in Fayette is presenting a piano ensemble recital, comprised of a variety of music and a blend of CMU students and professors.

The recital will be Sunday, April 15, at 4 p.m. in the Kountz Recital Hall on the CMU campus. It is free and open to the public.

On the program are “Rondo” by Daniel Gottlob Türk, performed by Keaton Denney and Josh Stettes; “Ballet” from Orphee et Eurydice by Gluck and arranged by Anderson, performed by Crystal Kimmi and Miranda Weigand; “Valise Noble, Op. 192, No. 1” by Cornelius Gurlitt, performed by Hannah Guilford, Cori Bryan, and Rachel Martin;

“Valise triste” by Reinhold Glière from Six Morceaux, Op. 41, No. 2, performed by Ruth Spayde, CMU adjunct music professor, and Dr. Barb Berwin, CMU professor of music; “Romance” by Sergei Rachmaninoff, performed by Zachary Kierstead, Nicole Milovich, and Amanda Lewis; “Bolero” by Louis Streabbog, performed by Hannah Guilford, Crystal Kimmi, and Miranda Weigand;

“Three Waltzes, Op. 39, No. 1, 2 and 11)” by Johannes Brahms, performed by Zachary Kierstead and Amanda Lewis; and”Spanish Dances, Op. 12,” by Moritz Moszkowski, performed by Dr. Barb Berwin and Dr. Melissa Leohnig Simons, CMU assistant professor of music.

Denney, Stettes, Lewis, Milovich, and Kierstead are students of Simons. Kimmi, Weigand, Guilford, Bryan, and Martin are students of Berwin.
