The Math, Science, and Computer Science Division at Central Methodist University in Fayette recently sponsored the competition for the Missouri Junior Academy of Science (MJAS) to determine who qualified to go to state from this region.
Four eighth graders and two seniors took top honors. The eighth grade students who qualified are Sarah Dowling from Moberly Middle School; and Leah Lourenco, Amanda Brade, and Libby Washburn, all from Chillicothe Middle School. Their sponsoring teachers are Peggy Paul from Moberly and Christine Jones from Chillicothe.
On the senior side, the winners are seniors Jessi Shipp and Bryn Faulkner, both seniors from Chillicothe. Their teacher is Stacy Surber.
In addition to qualifying for the state competition, if Shipp and/or Faulkner decide to attend CMU next year, each would receive a $2,500 scholarship.
