The Central Methodist University Concert Band is primed and ready to hit the road this month for its annual spring tour. This year, its tour will take it to the western side of Missouri and will run from Thursday, March 15 through Tuesday, March 20.
During the days of tour, the band will be performing for a variety of schools. These concerts are primarily closed to the public. However, each evening performance, usually at a United Methodist Church, is open to the public at no charge.
The evening performances will include at the Missouri United Methodist Church (204 S. 9th Street) in Columbia at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 15; Lebanon First United Methodist Church (300 N. Madison Ave.) in Lebanon at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 16; First United Methodist Church (1600 N. Central Ave.) in Monett at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 17;
at worship services at the First United Methodist Church in Monett at 9:15 a.m. and at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 18; at Grace United Methodist Church (2400 U.S. 50) in Lee’s Summit at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 18; and at Faithbridge United Methodist Church (901 Mo. 42) in Osage Beach at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 19.
The Concert Band will choose music from its extensive repertoire to perform at different venues. The repertoire includes “Adagio and Tarantella” by Cavalini with Adam Christal (junior music education major from Boonville), clarinet soloist; “Abram’s Pursuit” by CMU alumnus David Holsinger; “An American Fanfare” by Rick Kirby;
“Andrea Chenier” by Giordano, arranged by CMU alumnus Andrew Glover; “Annie Laurie” by Pryor with Michael Arnold (junior music education major from Marceline), euphonium soloist; “A Simple Song” by Bernstein, arranged by Sweeney; “Barnum and Bailey’s Favorite” by Karl King; “Classical Rondo” by Capuzzi, arranged by Glover with Matthew Johnson (senior music education major from Pacific), soprano sax soloist;
“English Folk Song Suite” by Ralph Vaughan Williams; “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” by CMU alumnus Claude Smith; “Fantasia” (on “Black is the Color of my True Love’s Hair”) by Mark Camphouse; “Groovy Loops” by J. Scott McKenzie; “Ignition” by Todd Statler; “Invictus” by Karl King, arranged by Glover; “Lights Out” by Earl McCoy, arranged by Glover;
“On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss” by Holsinger; “Rumba” by Maurice Whitney with Josh Miller (senior music education major from Waynesville) alto sax soloist; “They Shall Run and Be Free” by Brant Karrick; “The Swiss Shepherd” by Morlacchi, arranged by Kile with Mikaela Lewis (senior music education major from Harrisburg) flute soloist; and “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa.
The CMU Concert Band’s home concert will follow, on Sunday, April 8, at 4 p.m. in Linn Church on the Fayette campus of CMU. As always, the concert is free and open to the public.
