University Band Presents First Spring Concert

Because one performance band was not enough for Central Methodist University, several years ago the University Band was created. It will present its first concert of the semester on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 4 p.m. in Linn Memorial United Methodist Church on the CMU campus in Fayette.

The 63-musician band is open to all students who wish to perform, whether or not they belong to the Concert or Marching Bands. A number of students who are instrumental majors take this opportunity to perform on their secondary instruments to increase their skills.

The band will be conducted by Roy “Skip” Vandelicht, CMU director of bands and professor of music, and Steve Litwiller, CMU adjunct professor of music.

Included in the repertoire are “With Every Winter’s Breath” by Randall Standridge; “The Liberty Bell” by John Philip Sousa and arranged by Keith Brion and Loris Schissel; “Accolade” by Brady Massey; “Flight of the Piasa” by Robert Sheldon; “Symphonic Overture” by Charles Carter; and “Sonus Ventorum” by Central’s own Claude T. Smith.
