Central Methodist University’s African American Student Union (AASU) is sponsoring its second annual forum to discuss race relations, community building, and other social issues that heavily impact college society and American society as a whole.
The panel gathering will be Tuesday, Feb. 27, from 7 – 8:45 p.m. in the Courtney Dealy Room on the fourth floor of Inman Student and Community Center on the Fayette campus. The forum is free and everyone is encouraged to attend.
Discussions will seek to educate people, bring about general awareness of current issues, and talk about solutions that will broaden minority inclusion within our individual communities and across the nation. AASU hopes to measure attitudes and opinions about the state of racial relations in America in general and our local societies in specific.
The panelists will use their experiences and backgrounds to inspire dialogue about community, race relations, and recent crises targeting both communities and individuals. AASU hopes to narrow the current gaps and create better understanding.
Panelists will include Brian Jones, Shelter Insurance manager of diversity and inclusion, as moderator; Dr. Kevin Carnahan, CMU associate professor of philosophy and religion; Lauren Mann, a CMU junior political science major from Ashland; Stacye Smith, from benefits management at Shelter Insurance; and Gregory Ray, associate head coach of the CMU women’s basketball team.
