Central Methodist University recently welcomed students from five area high schools to its Fayette campus for a day of creative writing and design.
It was CMU’s fifth annual Young Writer’s Day (YWD), which drew students from surrounding towns including Higbee, Jamestown, Salisbury, Slater, and Smithton.
This year, the focus zoned in on a day-long creative experience that explored the production and design within various genres. Students had a choice of participating in poetry writing, film making, game design, or interactive fiction.
“The emphasis is not on creating a fully finished product, but rather exploring the creative process,” said Travis W. Johnson, associate professor of English at CMU.
Students visited many of the buildings around CMU, including the Inman Student and Community Center, Classic Hall and the Ashby-Hodge Gallery of American Art, the Thogmorton Center for Allied Health, and Givens Hall.
The day wrapped up with a T-shirt giveaway and raffle prizes for the students.
