Green Friday Benefits Fayette Food Pantry

For the second time, Central Methodist University’s Office of Civic Engagement held a “Green Friday” on Friday, Nov. 3, after a successful first run at the fundraising idea last fall.

Central students, faculty, and staff were encouraged to donate five or more canned food items, and in return, they received a multi-use coupon for the Eagle Store on campus.

When all was said and done, over 200 canned goods were donated, which went to the Fayette Food Pantry located in the Keller Building at 600 West Morrison in Fayette.

The timing of the drive was designed to help stock the pantry in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

“It’s exciting to see the number of people who go out of their way, carrying sacks of canned goods across campus, for a good cause,” said Cassandra Nappier, director of Civic Engagement and Student Programming. “I hope we can continue to call this event a success every year.”

According to Nappier, Central’s Office of Civic Engagement and Eagle Store plan to continue combining forces to make this event possible in the future.
