CMU To Present Collaborative Faculty Recital

Four of the talented faculty from the Swinney Conservatory of Music at Central Methodist University will present a special recital wrap-up to Homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 4 p.m. in the Kountz Recital Hall.

The recital is free and open to all.

Performing will be soprano Dr. Susan Quigley-Duggan, professor of music and director of Central’s Opera Program; mezzo-soprano and collaborative pianist Dr. Laura Wiebe, assistant professor of music; collaborative pianist Dr. Melissa Loehnig Simons, assistant professor of music; and collaborative pianist Dr. Barbara Berwin, professor of music.

The program will encompass vocal solos in multiple languages, duets with accompaniment on piano and harpsichord, keyboard duets, and assistance by two student flautists, Mikaela Lewis, a senior music education major from Harrisburg; and Haley Thoma, a junior nursing major from Boonville.

The program repertoire includes works in Italian and Latin by Monteverdi; “Chiome d’oro” with flutes and harpsichord; “Venite, Venite”; Italian songs “Amor mi fa cantare” by Donaudy, and “Vanne o rosa” by Bellini;

German duets “Erste Begegnun” by Schumann, “Abschiedslied der Zugvögel” by Mendelssohn, and “Die Schwestern” by Brahms; German solos “Rheinlegendchen” by Mahler and “Zueignung” by Stauss;

English solos “Awake the Sleeping Sun” by Hundley and “Queen of Heaven” by Dunnhill; English duets “Shepherd-Shepherd leave decoying and flutes” by Purcell, “Weep you no more” by Roger Quilter, and “It was a lover and his lass” by Vaughan Williams;

Piano duet “Spanish Dances, Op. 12” (Moderato, Allegro brioso) by Moritz Moszkowski; and French duets “Joie” by Massenet, “Au bord de l’eau” by Paladilhe, and “Tarantelle” by Fauré.
