Since 2010, Karen Ebbesmeyer has played a key role in the function and overall success of Central Methodist University’s Office of Financial Assistance.
Her hard work has always paid off for CMU students, the vast majority of whom receive financial aid. Now, it’s paid off for her.
After CMU conducted an extensive search for a director for the Office of Financial Assistance over the summer, Ebbesmeyer, who had been serving as interim director since June, was selected as the top candidate. She recently accepted the position of director of financial assistance, effective Sept. 19, according to Dr. Joseph Parisi, vice president for enrollment management.
“I’m very confident that Karen’s lengthy experience and expertise will proficiently serve the needs of our students and their families,” Parisi said. “Her experience and knowledge of financial aid will be a tremendous asset to our campus and community.”
As director, Ebbesmeyer is responsible for the effective administration of all financial aid programs and policies for CMU students, both on the Fayette campus and in its off-campus and online program. Her duties include maintaining institutional compliance, assuring proper counsel and advice to students and their families about financial aid, hiring and training staff, and more.
Before being named interim director, she served the Office of Financial Assistance as assistant director. In this role, Ebbesmeyer packaged College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS), or on-campus, students with federal, state, and institutional aid. She also coordinated the work-study program, conducted financial aid presentations, and ensured compliance of federal regulations.
“I love being a part of the CMU community, and I’m very excited to fill the role of the director of financial assistance,” Ebbesmeyer said. “The affordability of college is a concern for all, and we strive to assist students and parents in finding financial resources to achieve dreams of having a college education.”
Ebbesmeyer graduated from the University of Missouri in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science and Nutrition. She also received a Bachelor of Accountancy degree at CMU in 2012, and a Master of Business Administration from Webster University in 2016.
Ebbesmeyer is originally from Linn, and currently resides in Armstrong.
