CMU Homecoming: Welcome To The Jungle

Central Methodist University is preparing for its 2017 Homecoming celebrations, collectively named “Welcome to the Jungle,” running Friday, Oct. 13–Sunday, Oct. 15. Most activities take place on the campus and around the Howard County Courthouse Square.

Highlighting the festivities will be the Friday night All Alumni Social with food, cash bar, and live music at the historic Howard County Jail; the Saturday Homecoming Parade at 10 a.m. around the Courthouse Square; and the 1 p.m. football game at Davis Field between the CMU football Eagles and the Evangel Crusaders.

However, activities are plentiful and non-stop from registration at 9 a.m. on Friday to a collaborative faculty music recital at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Here is the full list of activities with times and locations:

Friday, October 13

9 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Alumni registration kiosk with coffee and donuts in the Classic Hall lobby
9 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Alumni College, where CMU professors open their classes for alumni to join
9 a.m. – 4 p.m.  The Ashby-Hodge Gallery of American in Classic Hall with their fall show “Passion Vs. Reality: Three for the Fall”
5 p.m.  40th Anniversary Celebration of the Hall of Sponsors, including unveiling of three new scholarships, first floor Brannock Hall
5 p.m.  CMU Reserve Women’s Soccer vs. State Fair on Davis Field
5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.  African American Student Union Social, in Thogmorton Conference room
5 p.m. – 8 p.m.  All Alumni Social with food, cash bar, and live music at the Historic Howard County Jail ($15 adults)
6 p.m.  Alumni slow-pitch game; no registration needed; just show up and play! Fayette City Park
7 p.m.  Pep Rally, Fayette Courthouse Square
8 p.m.  5th annual Green and GOLD Street Party, the Official “Young” alumni party at SE corner of the square
8 p.m.  Campus Ghost Tour; Meet under the Cross Memorial Tower
8 p.m. – 10 p.m.  View the Night Skies at the 90th Anniversary Open House, Morrison Observatory, west side of the Fayette Park

Saturday, October 14

8 a.m.  Second Annual Homecoming 5K Fun Run/Walk, benefitting Central Missouri Community Action
8 a.m. – 10 a.m.  Alumni registration kiosk and Alumni Association Pancake Breakfast (open to all), Bandstand on the Howard County Square
8:45 a.m.  Class of 1957 – 60th Anniversary Tea, Givens Hall on the campus
10 a.m.  Homecoming Parade: Welcome to the Jungle! Howard County Square
10 a.m.  Gathering space for classes of ’67 and ’77, open all day with refreshments provided, in Linn Memorial United Methodist Church on the campus
10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  Reunion Luncheon on the Inman Plaza (alumni sit with their class year/decade) (pay at door)
11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.  Alumni Tent at the new CMU tailgate zone in parking lot adjacent to Davis Field
11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.  70th Anniversary for Sigma Alpha Chi-Phi Delta Theta Tailgate, parking lot adjacent to Davis Field
11 a.m.  Complimentary Class pictures on Inman Plaza for classes of 1947, 1952, 1957, 1962, 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2008, and 2012
11 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Stephens Museum open, T. Berry Smith Hall
11 a.m. – 4 p.m.  The Ashby-Hodge Gallery of American Art is open, tours at 1 p.m, 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. in Classic Hall
1 p.m.  Eagle Football vs. Evangel Crusaders, Davis Field ($8 adults, $7 seniors, $5 students, CMU employees and children under 7 are free)
Post-game: 1854 Society and Founders Circle Reception by invitation at President Drake’s home on Park Street
Post-game:  Alumni Band Jam Session, open to all alumni, Classic Hall, Band Room
6 p.m.  90th Anniversary Celebration: Alpha Gamma Psi/Alpha Phi Alpha, Faith Family Church on Hwy. 240
8 p.m. – 10 p.m.  View the Night Skies at the 90th Anniversary Open House, Morrison Observatory, west side of the Fayette Park
Post-game: Downtown Block Party under the tents, hosted by the restaurants and businesses of Fayette
Post-game:  Sorority and fraternity gatherings; schedules available at registration

Sunday, October 15

10:30 a.m. Church Service at Linn Memorial United Methodist Church on CMU campus; all choir alumni are invited to join the choir in singing “Beautiful Savior”
11 a.m.  Brunch available at the Bergsten Dining Hall (pay at door)
1 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.  The Ashby Hodge Gallery of American Art will be open, Classic Hall
4 p.m.  Collaborative Faculty Music Faculty Recital, Recital Hall, Swinney Conservatory
