There’s no one better to recruit prospective students to Central Methodist University than a former student who has walked in those shoes – someone who was greatly involved on campus, and who truly appreciates all CMU has to offer.
DaSean Stokes, a recent CMU graduate from Saint Robert, has been named an admissions counselor for CMU’s Admissions Department, according to Dr. Joseph Parisi, vice president for enrollment management.
As an admissions counselor, Stokes will work to recruit prospective students within an assigned territory, and regularly communicate with these students and their families. Additionally, he will develop relationships with various high school representatives, and spend time traveling to college fairs and other special events.
“I wanted to be a part of a school that I love and am passionate about,” Stokes said. “I believe in what Admissions is doing as the first contact to potential Eagles, and I’m excited about helping the CMU family.”
While a student at CMU, Stokes participated in Chorale, Conservatory Singers, Church Street Boys, Swinney Sisters, University Band, and opera. He also was active as a varsity athlete in Track and Field.
Stokes worked in several work study positions, and was also a part of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and other student organizations including Student National Association of Teachers of Singing (SNATS), as well as National Association for Music Educators (NAFMEC).
In May, he received a Bachelor of Music degree in Performing Arts.
Stokes’ professional experience in recruiting before being hired at CMU came when he was a music director at Trinity United Methodist Church in Moberly. During that time, he recruited more than 15 new singers to join the choir – personally meeting each of them to discuss the opportunity.
His background also includes much service to CMU, including working for Smiley Library as a work study student. In this position, he welcomed students, faculty, staff and guests, directed visitors to different buildings on campus, and completed various projects.
Stokes also was Phonathon manager for CMU’s Advancement and Alumni Department. In this position, he regularly had direct contact with alumni and friends of the University to promote giving and alumni relations. Through all his professional experience, he gained great communication skills as he regularly conversed with individuals about Central.
