Allied Health Day To Display Options

Central Methodist University offers a variety of programs in the booming health care field. Learning about the options and specifics can be a challenge for high school students. Fortunately, CMU offers a special day just for those students contemplating a career in health care.

Allied Health Day, hosted by CMU’s Office of Admission and its Division of Health Professions, will be Friday, Sept. 29, beginning at 10 a.m. on the fourth floor of the Inman Student and Community Center. There is no charge and no obligation to attend Allied Health Day.

Students can gain an understanding of the key components that make up different areas of study available at CMU in athletic training, nursing, physical therapy, and occupational therapy.

In addition, students and their parents will also have the chance to speak with faculty, participate in hands-on activities, and tour facilities, including the state-of-the-art Thogmorton Allied Health Center.

“Students considering health care professions frequently know that they want to ‘serve other people,’ but often are not aware of the professional options that allow them to do so,” said Dr. Megan Hess, associate professor of nursing and chair of the CMU Division of Health Professions.

“One purpose of having an Allied Health Day,” she said, “is to provide potential students with opportunities to learn more about the various professions and ways to serve patients as a part of an interdisciplinary health care team. Another purpose is to connect potential students with the dynamic faculty who teach in these professions.”

According to Hess, some of the highest needs for the current and future job market are in these health concentrations. CMU Allied Health Day is a good way for students to engage each major and leave with a new understanding of their distinction and importance, thus, making it easier to choose which path they wish to follow.

Students may pre-register by Sept. 26. For additional information, contact CMU’s Office of Admission at 660-248-6251 or by email.
