The job of a Central Methodist University resident hall director (RHD) is to understand the ins and outs of campus living, ensure safety in student housing, and be a leader for those residing on campus.
Central has named three new RHDs believed to be perfect fits for this role – Jordan Schwellenbach, Donald Sledge, and Jakob Junker.
“We are extremely fortunate to have these three individuals joining our residential life staff at CMU,” said Ken Oliver, vice president for institutional growth and student engagement. “Jordan, Jakob, and Donald all bring a different set of qualities; however, they all understand the importance of student engagement and student safety.”
Schwellenbach, from Saginaw, Mich., will oversee Howard-Payne Hall. This hall is a five-story, co-ed residence hall that was built in 1858, when it was part of Howard-Payne University for Women. Howard-Payne has the capacity to house over 180 students.
Previously, Schwellenbach was an assistant baseball coach and instructor at Saginaw Valley State University in University Center, Mich. In 2014, he graduated from Northwood University in Midland, Mich., with a bachelor’s degree in advertising and marketing.
Sledge, a St. Louis native and Central graduate, is assigned to Burford Hall – a four-story residence hall for men. Burford was opened in 1960 and provides housing for over 100 students.
Before becoming an RHD, Sledge earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science from CMU. In prior years, he also gained professional experience as a traveling consultant in St. Louis, as well as a hardware/software help desk employee.
Junker, a Central graduate from Warrenton, will oversee Woodward Hall, which is a three-story, mostly freshmen residence hall for men. The building was completed in 1964 and provides rooms for approximately 120 students.
Junker received his bachelor’s degree in sports management from CMU in May. He held the title of student intramural sports director as a student. Last summer, he received internship experience as an operations intern for Air Capital Classic, and worked as a crew member for Wichita Sports Forum, as well. Additionally, during his freshman year at CMU, he was a resident assistant, and worked directly under an RHD.
In their new positions, Schwellenbach, Sledge, and Junker will join current RHDs Savannah Schaefer, a Glasgow native assigned to Holt Hall, and Connor White, from Jefferson City, who is the RHD of McMurry Hall.
