The 56-member University Band will present its last concert of the semester on Thursday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Linn Memorial Church on the Fayette campus of Central Methodist University.
The concert is open to the public at no charge.
The band is made up of students, some of whom are music majors and some of whom are not. In fact, some of the music majors in the band adopt a secondary instrument to play in the University Band in order to strengthen their music and teaching skills.
Conducting the band this semester are Skip Vandelicht, associate professor of music and director of bands; Dr. Dori Waggoner, assistant professor of music, chair of the Fine and Performing Arts division, and Dean of the Swinney Conservatory of Music; and Steve Litwiller, adjunct professor of music at CMU.
Included in their performance will be “The Thunderer” by John Philip Sousa; “Voices of the Sky” by Samuel Hazo; “All the Pretty Little Horses” by Andrew Boysen Jr.; “The Saint and the City” by Jacob de Haan; “The Good Daughter Overture” by N. Piccini and arranged by Eric Osterling; “Begin the Beguine” by Cole Porter and arranged by John Krance; and “Doxology” arranged by William Himes.
