The last two years have proven the popularity and value of the benefit production, and Central Methodist University expects nothing less for its third consecutive year presenting The Vagina Monologues.
The award-winning play by Eve Ensler will be performed in CMU’s Little Theatre on Thursday, Feb. 23 and Friday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged and appreciated as the proceeds earned will benefit Safe Passage – a domestic violence and crisis intervention center in Moberly, Mo.
Dr. Annette Van, associate professor of English at CMU, will co-direct an all-female cast composed of CMU students, faculty and staff along with CMU student Danielle Franklin (a senior English major from Oak Grove, Mo.). The cast will read monologues based on a compilation of true stories told by women about their vaginas, with experiences ranging from surprising, to humorous, to emotional.
The topics and language in the play are recommended for a mature audience, as they may be considered offensive or inappropriate. CMU recommends researching the play prior to attending the production.
The cast includes students Sonia Addo, a senior nursing major from Marshall; Myriah Araiza, a sophomore education and theatre arts major from Columbia; Peyton Davis, a senior biology major from Glasgow; Shelby Dodson, a senior criminal justice major from Fayette; Clarice Fels, a sophomore environmental science major from Springfield;
Danielle Franklin; Brittany Lawson, a senior biology major from Jefferson City; Kaitlyn Roberts, a senior theatre arts major from Rolla; Denise Weigand, a senior physics major from Weatherby; and Abby Wimberley, a junior theatre arts major from Independence.
Faculty and staff cast members include Jennifer Engle, adjunct professor of English and psychology; Kavita Hatwalkar, assistant professor of English; Carrie Strodtman, assistant professor and information services librarian; Cathy Thogmorton, public relations associate and editor of the Talon; Jessica Travlos, media and content coordinator; and Annette Van.
