For the last two years, Central Methodist University has hosted ‘The Vagina Monologues’ – a production featuring an all-female cast that leaves the audience laughing, blushing, and even in tears.
Due to its message and popularity, the show featuring an all-volunteer cast of CMU students, faculty and staff will be performed in CMU’s Little Theatre on Thursday, Feb. 23 and Friday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
Admission is free, but donations are encouraged as all proceeds will benefit Safe Passage – a domestic violence and crisis intervention center in Moberly.
The award-winning play by Eve Ensler features a cast that reads monologues based on a compilation of true stories told by women about vaginas. The stories range from humorous, to emotional, to startling experiences had by the women storytellers.
Dr. Annette Van, associate professor of English at CMU, will co-direct the all-female cast.
“The Vagina Monologues is a funny, touching, shocking collection of real women's stories. There's really nothing like it,” Van said. “Not only will donations support a wonderful local domestic violence and crisis intervention center, but audience members will surely feel all the feels.”
The topics and language in the play are recommended for a mature audience, as they may be considered offensive or inappropriate. CMU recommends researching the play prior to attending the production.
