University Band To Present First Concert Of Season

The University Band of Central Methodist University forms in January and begins presenting concerts in February.

Their first concert this semester is slated for Sunday, Feb. 26 at 4 p.m. in Linn Memorial Church on the Fayette campus. All are welcome and there is no charge.

The University Band is composed of both music and non-music majors, coming together for the love of playing instrumental music. Some CMU Concert Band members are also in the University Band, often playing a secondary musical instrument for the experience. This year the band comprises 56 students.

University Band will be conducted by Professor Skip Vandelicht, associate professor of music and director of bands, and Adjunct Professor Steve Litwiller.

The program will include “The High School Cadets” by John Philip Sousa; “Gaelic Rhapsody” by Elliott Del Borgo; “Overcome,” arranged by Bill Locklear; “Kentucky 1800” by Clare Grundman; “Slumber My Darling” by Stephen Foster and arranged by Brant Karrick; and “Dedicatory Overture” by Clifton Williams.
